Factory Fresh Mini-Matic 998cc
Factory Fresh Mini-Matic 998cc
Details matter, and that is definitely right with this mini. A truly exceptional Mini-Matic 998cc with a revised gearbox in this perfect "Verde Chiaro". She’s been repainted once, but seeing the certificatio di storicita, this must have been before 2009. A matching history, and the body is in an unseen condition. Everywhere you look she's beautiful green: the rear boot, engine bay, and the underside. This car feels factory fresh.

Olivia was originally delivered on the 23rd of February 1973, where she started life in Novara: just a 30-minute drive from where she had left the factory originally. The garage delivering the car to Amneris Leonardi was the Novarauto on Via Monte S. Gabriele 11 in Novara. A specialised Innocenti dealer, as there were many in the day. We see a change of ownership in 1998 and one in November 2014 when the car went to Giorgio, where we found her. Giorgio is a very kind, wonderful man, with a few cars of his own stored under his apartment.
On the rear boot we see a gold metal badge by "I MISERABILI" and a sticker on the front windscreen from A.A.V.S. These are clubs authorized by the state to issue certificates of originality, and they only give their proof to the very best and most original classics. It’s a stamp of quality that fits this car perfectly.

The interior is fully original: no added switches, no marks of wear and tear. It is finished in this smooth black with a rubber carpet—and yes, only Innocenti themselves can make them as beautiful as this. The fitting is done with press buttons and features the original factory insulation against the firewall. There is no cracked dashboard, in the centre we have the oval 3-clock, and even the tiny gaiter finishing off the gearshifter housing is intact; we've never seen one of those before. She even features that wood finish steering wheel, a specific detail delivered on the -1000 and -Matic Innocenti's.

In the books we find the original manual, service assistance, and even an old shopping list with the VINO in caps. A teared-off paper from the 14th of March '73 shows her first "servizio gratuito" with 1,455 km on the clock—the essential running-in period for the first oil in these cars. By the 19th of June, she had already travelled 6,400 km; as you see here, the owner kept tight to the 5,000 km service intervals.
Fast forward and we see a change of ownership in 1998, and another in November 2014 when the car went to Giorgio. He brought her to his home in Catanzaro, way down in the toe of Italy, next to Sicily. This is where we found her; Giorgio is a very kind, wonderful man with a few cars of his own tucked away under his apartment. She has been incredibly well cared for throughout her life as you can see from her condition, but the service records can also prove she almost never missed a check.

In the engine bay we find this beautiful 998cc Automatic engine. The beautiful thing with automatics is that they run so smoothly; they normally lived a calm life, mostly with an elderly lady and therefore aren't pushed to the limit. You feel this already at startup.
Giorgio was a bit sad when he first bought the car; the automatic gearbox had some problems and needed revision. This has been done by an ex-Innocenti workman that still had the skills and therefore was able to do the revision. Some other parts while at it were also revised around 2000km ago.
We really like the automatics to drive, they’re really joyful driving cars with their own character. They’re even advertised as "on the Mini you flick from automatic to manual as you choose!" This is also the only automatic in the world that is able to start with a push start.
